The Chinar — the oriental plane tree — is Kashmir’s most beloved symbol. Its five-pointed leaf appears in Mughal garden design, in carved walnut woodwork, in papier-mâché lacquerware, and in the embroidery and weaving of Kashmiri shawls across centuries. To the Kashmiri artisan, the Chinar is not just a motif. It is home.

On this shawl, the Chinar leaf is rendered through the Kani weaving technique — meaning the pattern is not embroidered onto the surface but woven structurally into the fabric using small wooden spools (kanis), each carrying a different coloured thread. The design exists within the weave itself, visible from both sides, permanent and inseparable from the cloth. This is the defining distinction of Kani work: the pattern and the fabric are one.

The ground is 100% pure Capra Hircus cashmere, and at 80 × 40 inches this is a full wrap — generous, warm, and substantial. A piece that carries Kashmir’s most iconic symbol in its most authentic form.
