There are embroidery techniques, and then there is Khatras. Where standard Sozni uses a single thread at a time, Khatras requires the artisan to work with multiple coloured silk threads simultaneously, interlacing them to build up a depth of colour and texture that no single-thread technique can replicate. It is one of the rarest skills in Kashmir’s embroidery tradition — fewer masters practice it with each passing generation.
This shawl draws on archival Kashmiri motifs: the buta paisley in its most elaborate form, flowering vines that echo Mughal garden designs, and geometric borders that frame the composition with architectural precision. The ground is 100% pure Capra Hircus cashmere, hand-combed, hand-spun, and hand-woven — a canvas worthy of the art it carries.
To own a Khatras piece is to own a fragment of a living heritage that is genuinely at risk of being lost. This is not decoration. This is documentation.
