The Kani loom is one of the most complex weaving systems ever devised. Instead of a shuttle carrying a single weft thread, the weaver works with dozens of small wooden spools — the kanis — each carrying a different colour, each passed by hand through the warp in a sequence dictated by a coded pattern card called a talim. The design is not embroidered after weaving. It is built into the fabric itself, thread by thread, as the cloth is made.
This shawl is woven in natural, undyed royal cream — the raw colour of the Capra Hircus fibre as it comes from the animal. No dye touches it. The warmth of the colour, the softness of the handle, the subtle variation in tone across the surface: all of it is exactly as nature made it. The Kani pattern emerges in the same cream, visible only in the structural texture of the weave — a masterclass in restraint.
At 80 × 40 inches, this is a full wrap — generous enough to drape, fold, and wear in multiple ways. A collector’s piece in the truest sense.
